Polly Plouviez is a mixed media artist, whose current body of work explores her own neurodiversity in relation to her painting practice. The initial inspiration for the work shown here came from observing the natural world and more specifically the ethereal otherworldliness of the jellyfish at the Plymouth aquarium. She was drawn to the jellyfish as an inspirational metaphor for her painterly expression of feelings around her own, newly recognised neurodiversity. She has consciously chosen to paint in both a limited palette of oil colours, to allow her to simply focus on the imagery.

Her work celebrates her newly found strengths and attributes as a neurodiverse creative, having undertaken research and experiments into Irlen’s syndrome. This is a visual perceptual difference, which she have identified, harnessed and incorporated into her painting work and she interested in how these differences may or may not manifest in her paintings.
