ART AND ENERGY AT GROW

Photos taken from the Art and Energy Residency at Grow (23-29 March 2023)

Wed 22 February 2023

From the 23– 29 March 2023, Art and Energy will be in residence at GROW to experiment, play, learn and share! Throughout the week there will be opportunities to meet the Art and Energy collective and their collaborators at pop-up events - If you can’t join us at these events, take a look through the window at GROW throughout the week and you will see:

SOLAR ARTWORKS

In 2019, Art and Energy made the UK’s first solar panel artworks. These beautiful framed artworks have integrated solar cells which generate electricity. They challenge existing energy aesthetics and lift people’s sights, opening doors in the imagination to a more hopeful and optimistic vision. Recent developments include the design of kits for DIY solar creativity. Whilst at GROW Art and Energy plan to further explore aesthetic potential of solar artworks and ask the question; How will you use your power?

MOSS AND MOOR

Carbon looms large, it is the giant of our times. Art and Energy’s new project ‘How to Bury the Giant’ creatively explores peatlands, moor, wool and mosses as inspiration and tools that will help us in the transition to a better future. Since the dawn of time mosses have sequestered carbon, transforming places where other life can thrive. Whilst at GROW Art and Energy will be exploring textile techniques for creating a mass-participation interactive moss-like textile artwork.

THE MOTH DOME

Throughout 2020 and 2021 over 59,000 participants from the UK and overseas were inspired by moths and helped to make Art and Energy’s award winning artwork ‘Moths to a Flame’ which was displayed in Glasgow for COP26. Some of the moths have now been transformed into a geodesic dome. Whilst at GROW Art and Energy will be inviting you in to this inspirational space to share your thoughts about energy and the environment.

PART OF A YEAR-LONG SERIES OF RESIDENCIES AND CULTURAL EVENTS
The Art and Energy takeover of Grow is part of a year-long series of pop-up residencies and cultural events working with partners to experiment and explore the building, its surroundings, heritage and looks to the future in terms of sustainability, inclusion, food and drink, grassroots arts, music and culture.  The top floors have been converted into studios, which are now creative home to painters, audio artists, printmakers, installation and socially engaged artists.
